I have a ground power unit plug wired into my experimental airplane.
It works great but if I leave it plugged in when it’s powered down, it runs the battery down if left in that condition for long ...

Wait. Does a transponder ever transmit without receiving anything?

It's complicated. to be that close to the com antenna I would have to be physically mounted in the metal that forms its ground plane.

Does the transponder blow up if its side of the switch is ope ...

if you are interested in minimizing Vf it's worthwhile looking at the Vf curves on the device you want to use. Here's one from the IXYS DSS2x81-0045B. A few trends: Lower Vf is associated with lowe ...

Joe, thanks for the link.

In this case I actually do want 12V but interesting to get another data point on day-green.

I'm adding a second transponder to my carbon airplane and am out of places to mount a second antenna. I would only be using one transponder at a time so I am thinking of using a coax switch to selec ...

I have a 28V aircraft with a few critical items that run on 12V. I previously used a Vicor VI-M11-ES but it became damaged and that model is no longer available.

What Vicor has available are mini ...

Hi Bob,

I apologize for my somewhat wise-ass answer to Joe's post. Clearly I have a lot to learn.

We always fight the last war and my last war was smoke coming from behind the panel that som ...

Thinking about this a little differently: When the wires are sized, they are sized for voltage drop vs. current and distance. Tables for calculating that are widely available. Typically we apply ...

I can see the logic of that. However, if you abide that logic you probably wouldn't put any current limiters in your airplane at all, right?

I think the guys that made my Nissan Stanza thought so ...

I wanted to protect all my big power wires that go through the firewall so I put ANL's on all of them.

So for example, I put a 35A ANL on a #8 feed.
The data sheet shows the 35A ANL will basically ...

Bob,

I agree with you about being prepared for any contactor to fail and not to be overly concerned about that. A failure that results in not being able to operate the contactor should not in itse ...
