Yes, the rear mag switch must be in the 1+2 position to start from the
front cockpit.

If the rear mag is at 0, it won't start. So normal procedure is to leave the rear on. Yours sounds like a wiring issue. I actually rewrite and removed the rear mag switch.

Just bought a 52, and learned one can't fly it without a screwdriver !
