Check for an air leak at the boots. Unfortunately your crank seals may
have dried and allow air to pass. There's a way to check but I don't

Just to let you know, the oil sender was bad, but I replaced it with a
2-wire version with a dedicated ground to preclude future problems with
grounding through the braided line.
