The owner of the airplane was able to follow your advice and narrow the problem to the voltage regulator. All is well now with a new part installled.

Most of the diodes discussed above will drop about 0.5 volts at 10 amps.
The power loss will be 0.5 x 10 = 5 watts. That will produce lots of heat.

Some thoughts:

The SDS schematic leaves out a lot of details.
The ECU select switch is SPDT.
Since the ECUs are unswitched I don't understand how the crew ...
