Hi Jeremy, I'm sure lots of people will pitch in, but I just wanted to say that I've been flying my Europa Classic Monowheel on an NPPL for the last 10 years or so.

Try dipping the end of the oil hose in a mug of boiling hot water for a couple of minutes. Softens them up quite nicely (shake off any water before fitting).
