I agree with Bill, you need something like 20-25 lbs of breakout force on the nut and belleville washers. It states the correct number in the Vans' plans.

Dave, I am reluctant to make these for control surfaces for other builders. I think each one would have to be specifically made for each aircraft after reaming the hole.

I found the slop in mine too. I threw away the original bushings and made some out of Delrin. They are silky smooth now with no play.

Personally I would wait until the halves are together before drilling the hinges. They change a lot during the process and the other skin will affect them.
