I would suggest that the rod is only threaded on the ends and only enough thread to get the rod end on. 4130 steel rod is cheep, strong and easy to get at Aircraft spruce and others.

I made the stops adjustable because I didn't think I could fine tune them by filing away material. I guess I could remove the movable parts to get better access to the turnbuckles but I hadn't thought ...

The first hoop I tried to bend had 1/8" holes drilled in it and it snapped right at the hole.
If you screw blocks of wood to your bench you can get the leverage to bend the tubing and it's not t ...

Damien,
Keep in mind you are messing around with a structural part of your aircraft. The skin is what gives your ship it's strength. By drilling out the rivets along the top forward longer's you have ...

Cut a strip of 6061 aluminum 16 mm x the length of holes along the longeron and top skin overlap, and add 20 mm.
Clamp the strip to the long ...

You could cut a strip of 4130 steel .090 minimum to fit the inside of the longeron the length of the holes you want to put screws in plus 20mm or so. Then backdrill from the outside and tap the holes ...
