Once you get the piece of brazing rod soldered in, and it cools down, you might want to pack that area around the base of the antenna full of RTV to help make it watertight. |

You could use an antenna switch (vhf) to choose/select top or bottom antenna. Check with your local ham radio store, or do a "google" search for same. It would add maybe a pound or two to yo ... |

With one switch you are putting all your eggs (and faith) in a single point of failure. What use is having emergency backup power if you can not use it if the only switch is broken? |
