The exact meteorological conditions were outside airtemp 50F, high humidity. Also included was a prolonged low power descent. Application of carb heat cured the problem.

The carburetor has an operating spec of +10C to +40C. The manual calls for carb heat at anything below that range. This is not for carb ice. It is to insure that the carb itself is operating properly. ...

The PF was introduced as a high power engine version not a long life version, if you use the horsepower.

Increasing the horse power in an engine simply by inceasing the boost is not the best way to go. Especially in an aircraft engine.
