Hello everybody
My XL has 4 x 12USG wing tanks and a 5-way-Andair selector valve.
Zenith's standard fuel supply setup is - as you all know - one aux fuel pump behind the fuel selector valve/gascolator. The aux fuel pump needs to "suck" the fuel over a rather long way from each tank through the selector valve and the gascolator. I am somehow concerned that it is more likely with this setup that vapor lock occurs, especially during takeoff (engine at full power).
I don't want to install 4 aux fuel pumps at each wing fuel tank outlet. But what do you think about this idea:
* 1 aux fuel pump at the firewall (after the gascolator, standard setup, ok for cruise flight phase)
* 1 elec fuel pump at the left inner tank, switched on for takeoff and landings, takeoff and landings are made with fuel from the left inner tank.
This would mean that during critical flight phases with high power settings, the fuel is additionally pressurized right from the wing tank by the wing tank pump.
In case I forget to switch on the wing tank pump and/or forget to select the left inner wing fuel tank, the setup is still Zenith-standard (1 aux fuel pump at the firewall, 1 engine driven fuel pump).
What is your opinion? I am not a fuel system expert - looking forward to reading your answers!!!
Cheers Martin
