Hi everyone,

Yes, we hand propped it. Watch the video..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFOyEmtrOfs

See you at Sun n Fun.

ps. We also got it hand propped without the shower of sparks on line and one mag. It ran but I messed up the priming.

Congrats Eddie!

Something my neighbor Marion Cole told me years ago that always comes to mind with a 9 cylinder radial. "With 18 spark plugs something ought to fire when they are pulled through by hand." <grin>

Are you going to do an episode for Mythbusters?

May the Force be with you.

Cool Eddie, - I did notice your video says “or even with Oxygen” – don’t go there…<grin>.

Scott, yes the O2 thing. I talked with Steve Culp today about that. I see no problem with Nitrogen since the air that drives down the cyl is expeled and the intake valve opens on the next stroke to bring in the fresh air...................maybe

By the way, we started it once with the "shower of sparks" off line, on one mag.

The thing also spun up once after priming, just hitting the ignition.

Steve Culp told me this....."With 9 cylinders, 18 plugs and huge mags, something is bound to fire when you turn the prop" not his quote.

Nice video. Is there a downloadable version? I'd very much like to know the whole hand propping procedure step by step. Perhaps a printable file for us all to slot somewhere in the aircraft, just in case. I'm familiar with starting Cubs, Buckers and Austers etc but wouldn't feel comfortable with the Yak without specific instructions.

One query. I saw no chocks. Did you have the aircraft tied to something? If not then you are VERY brave.
