Believe It Or Don't!
Local afternoon scandal sheet ran a photo of Steve Fossett (AP photo) walking away from his "Virgin Atlantic Global Flyer".
Registration in the picture shows N277SF. FAA data indicates Rotax powerplant.
News article (by Mike Schneider of the AP) says he has 18,000 (eighteen thousand) pounds of fuel and his intention is to fly at 45,000 feet (flt lev 450).
Did the writer possibly mean to say that the runway at the Cape was 18,000 feet long and cruise altitude would be 4500? Is this a new, secret, Rotax engine? Did I just miss something here?
Is this the same reporter who did the 1977 "C-172 catches up with and runs down a PSA 727 at San Diego" story?
do not archive, for I do not know how to calculate fuel burn on this one.
Okay....point out that today is actually April 1st.
