My new 70" IVO IFA patriot ultralight prop has arrived. Looking at the installation instructions I need to make a bracket for the electrical pick-up post to attach to on my 912 UL engine gearbox. A piece of aluminum angle stock is recommended. Any recommendations to the size or type used?
Also any other suggestions for installation, set up, and static and flight tests?
Thanks,
Mark

Ya, forget that setup for the brushes and go for the setup through the center of the hub.

One of the issues one of the Ivo folks had at Desert Fox infolved the center
of hub brushe set-up. One of the contact rings drifted on the insulated
shaft so it wasn't under the brush.

The IVO is a great prop. It had some problems early on, not serious as I
have owned several. Sold the ground adjustable 68 inch that was on my
912UL. Also used it for about 100 hours on 912ULS. Worked fine except on
some run ups the tips would stall but not in flight. Just a slight
cavitation sound. I bought it (ground adjustable) as IVO was having some
problems with lead screw and I had one that was broken. Seems that they had
some metal problems and they were on back order so I ordered the ground
adjustable unit and used it for my 40 hours of flight test. I have a 72
inch now and it matches the plane very nicely. The worse thing that could
happen would be a complete motor failure, at which time you would fly with
your last pitch setting. It will get you home very nicely or you can remove
the prop. About 5 minutes and manually set for netural position. The plane
will fly with any pitch setting.
I would recomment the 68 inch prop for the 912UL and the 72 inch for the
912ULS. My origional prop was a 70 inch which I cut down.
Call me or contact me off line for more information. Clint

So, Clint, tell me why you think the 68" is a better IVO prop for the 912 UL engine, currently I have mine at 70", but I feel that is too much prop and am thinking of shortening to 68".

I had a 70 to start. It worked ok but even the 68 inch in my opinion
pitched a little high. I would try it first before doing anything. My
advise is don't over work the unit. I use manifold pressure gauge along
with tachometer. At sea level I would like to see between 22 to 23 inches.
If it is a lot higher then that, your RPM's will be on the low side. Call
me if you want (650) 712-1802
