All,
I'd like to add information on how to set up email
signatures to the Matronics Wiki. I use Eudora and can cover that
program. I'd like a brief write-up on how to create, enable, and use
signatures in

Microsoft Outlook
Netscape

And any other email program you guys are using. (Mac too,
since I don't know that end.) Some of you may be able to just
"borrow" the information from the help files and send it to me.

Thanks,

Guy,
In Microsoft Outlook first open up an untitled message then click on
Tools and Options. Under the General Tab click the e-mail option button and
there you can create an auto signature. Make sure to configure it for
replies and forwards. Then click OK. Your good to go.

Guy and All,
I found a lot of email help at About.com specifically:
http://email.about.com/od/signatures/Email_Signatures.htm
(I'm using Mozilla Thunderbird)

Everyone,
I decided to send this to the list instead of just Guy as there's lots
of other help there.

Thanks Rex. (I'm going to call you Rex since I can't bring myself to
call you Rexinator.) I found the About site on Google but somehow
entered further down the tree. This page looks quite complete. I'll
see what I can do with it.

PS Any chance you'd like to add to your signature? I'd love to at
least know what your status is and what you're flying / building.

My point exactly ... I have four signatures loaded into Outlook and it's
getting to be a bit of a chore to copy a correspondence, close the message,
reset the signature open a new message and paste the correspondence or
delete and retype a suitable signature. I think we should soon return to
status quo with the occasional contact info.

I can't tell who you are aiming this reply to, because you didn't
leave a snippet of the previous post, but I'll step in to say that my
mail allows me to type in a signature or select a sig that I've
previously entered, such as sig #1, 2, 3, or 4. It's my choice. It
just happens that the lovely one you see below is my #2...enjoy. : )

I don't know about software other than Outlook Express, but it's actually
very simple and I'm sure the others aren't difficult. Just go to
Tools/Options/Signatures and enter the appropriate data according to the
instructions. You can enter several combinations to your desire. Then when
you compose a message, at the top click on "Insert" then choose and click
the appropriate signature. If you only have one signature then you don't
even have to choose. The actual part about placing a signature on your
message takes about 5 seconds or less. Not really a big deal.

I somehow missed the posting that detailed just what was to be included in
the signatures. Does the one I have used here cover the issue? I have
often thought that emails would be more useful if model and engine used were
included. Was there an enforcement measure besides just reminding the
sender included? If so I am a little bit nervous about that.

Noel-
The main advantage of a Mac is the virus writers don't bother with
writing a virus for Macs...they'd only screw up a couple dozen users
if they did, instead of millions of the other kind. : )

What ads? I'm a big TV watcher, and don't recall seeing any, or if I
did they couldn't have been memorable...at least not in MY memory.

Microsoft Outlook lets you choose from a list. I too have 5 signatures to
choose from now that I have made a Kitfox list signature. I just right
click a dot that appears on every one of my emails and chose the signature I
want to use.

They run television ads where a slightly over weight fellow wearing dark
rimmed glasses introduces himself as PC and another younger guy in a casual
shirt and pants introduces himself as Mac... Of course the Mac always gets
the upper hand... Good ads.

PC was having a camera mounted on his head with duct tape bragging that some
day Mac could get one then the installer informs him that Mac comes with the
camera.

Another ad has a really geeky looking Mac praising up PC. Then the "real"
Mac comes along and asks what's happening.... The geeky looking stand in
says under his breathe how big a fan he is on Macs.

There is a whole series of theses ads running. All are to one extent or the
other entertaining the same way as While E. Coyote... You keep wondering how
PC is going to mess up in each new ad.

A short while ago somebody did actually write a virus that attacks the
Mac... Didn't last very long.

Noel

Now that you mention it, I did see a guy with a camera on his
head...so that was a Mac ad, eh? The trouble with a lot of ads, or
maybe it is just me, when they're over, sometimes I couldn't tell you
what the ad was for. I get so caught up in the humor, the product
gets lost in the translation. I know other people who say the same
thing.

I think the commercials are pretty stupid, the few that I've seen. But Apple
is pretty proud of themselves over them. They archive all of them so you can
make sure you don't miss any. http://www.apple.com/getamac/ads/ I noticed
them when looking for something for my ipod.

Guy, I understand and accept your decision to have a signature. But I
write to a lot of people, in three different languages, and from two
different computers; a Macintosh and a PC. I can't include a signature
so I'll have to do it manually, for each posting.

Michel-
Can't you just have a signature in, say, text edit, or in Stickies,
which you can leave on your desktop and then copy and paste it onto
the post? (I can't believe I'm making a suggestion about how to do
something on any computer to anybody, let alone someone who has
taught me a bit about Macs. : ) )
