It is necessary to change the tyres of my kitfox model 4 . But it’s impossible to find in France ( and in Europe) the right size of tyres.
I use actually “ 200 * 7.00 – 8 Nylon 2 Ply rating “ ( “Tundra type”), . May be they’re not the most suitable for a Hard-surfaced runway.
I would be very grateful if somebody could give me :
  • The right type and size I could set on the kitfox (model 4)
  • The mail and telephone address, in the USA, where the product would be available.

Thanks for your help

Those are the original Cheng Shin tyres. They did an excellent job on
my plane for the many years she flew from a grass airfield but after
two years on the asphalt I fly from, they got worn down.
Looking for an alternative, I asked the guys on this list and got a lot
of interesting answers. Finally, I went to a local tyre specialist and
asked what he had available. I wanted smooth tyres because I am afraid
of gravel being projected on my wings. He recommended a locally
produced tyre 0f 18x9.50 - 8. Of course it is a smaller tyre but it is
4-ply and very resistant. It also needs more pressure. While the Cheng
Shin needs 7 lbs, mine require much more, up to 24 lbs. But I put only
16 to 18 lbs in them and ... mind you, it gives a harder ride,
especially where the asphalt has some holes.
But they have served me good for the past year and half and show no
trace of wear. The brand is Røwde and since its written with a
Scandinavian letter, I guess ... it is Scandinavian. But I am sure
you'll find other similar brands in France, or in the US. Many people
on the list are very happy with huge tundra tyres but the question is:
Is it good on asphalt or concrete?

Amicalement,

Jean-Claude, try poking around in the sites below. The first one has a tire that is ideal for the Kitfox. Not long ago they were having a "special" on these, but it may be over by now. Just ask them if they are still offering it.

Jean-Claude,

Contact John McBean, He can get you the tires you need for
your kitfox with the 8" Rim. He got a set for me. Its the new replace-
ment for the skinned tires, slightly larger, but made smoothe without
being ground down, the Name is King Fox tires.

Carlisle also makes some 8" ribbed tires in various sizes. Look in the lawn
tractor section of
www.cedarrapidstire.com They might be better on paved runways than the
totaly smooth tundra tires.
