I'm new here so forgive me if this subject has been beaten to death. Can anyone tell me what happened to the 5100? I was thinking that would make one sweet engine for the RV9!- thoughts?

What I've heard is that the demand for the 2200 and the 3300 has the factory so far behind that they have ceased production of the eight cylinder engine until they have the time and capacity to assign to it again.

Since the 3300 and the 2200 have become so popular and Jabiru has only so
much machining capacity, they decided to put the 5100 on hold till they can
keep up with demand on the smaller engines. It is a great running engine and
soooo smoooth.
Hope that answers you question.

Some other have already responded with reasons why Jabiru is not producing
them at the moment. However, I've seen someone offering a brand new 5100 for
sale just a few months ago. You may want to try contacting him to see if
it's still available... See:

I thought the test-bed for the 5100 was an RV-6 but I can't find the
reference.

Yes to all, the factory had an RV-6 they installed the prototype on, with
a view to developing a FF kit. Since then our dollar has appreciated from
US47c to US83c, and the Lyclones have boomed, spoiling the marketing
advantage.
I flew the 5100/RV-6, it was very smooth and compared well to my 180/RV-4 in
power. I think it is an ideal RV engine if you don't want a CS and
inverted capability.
The factory is expanding now, but all booked up for the forseeable future
with the smaller engines.

I have a gut feeling to be cautious about the 5100 until someone else gets
more hours on it. Production was discontinued it is said for capacity
reasons but it has not had a lot of in field development.
