Does a RV10 require a header tank for the fuel system ? I am not
building one but was told any high horse power plane needs one to keep the
fuel flow going. Otherwise it can bestarved for fuel in un-coordinated or
unusual flight.
Sorry I forgot to change the subject last time.

Randy

Hi Steve, I am building a high wing Aerocomp C6 with IO540
300hp. Where can I go to get an understanding of the difference between high
and low wing fuel systems ? I contacted Aerocomp, they claim they have built
them both ways, they don't require a header and have had good luck without
one. Although I was told it is possible to be fuel starved without one, but
other planes suffer the same problem. Kinda a catch 22.

Shortcoming of the low wing is the fuel must be coaxed to defy gravity

Some low wings have header tanks, but usually a high wing gravity set up.

The older low wing gravity feed set ups, use a fuel tank situated between
the instrument panel and the firewall, which acts as a big header......

Header tanks put the fuel in the fuselage & to some, 'on a bad day' becomes
a religious experience.

Mechanical fuel pump w/ electric back up & some good dead stick skills Wink

One of sthe best header tank systems I've seen in a high wing is like a
GlaStar uses: tubular cans in each line below the wing root and above the
fuel pump.

I have contacted Glasair aviation for more info on their system.
Is there a Glastar group on the internet or a site that may have info on the
fuel system ?

Thanks Randy

glastar.org

just search "glastar header tank" and you'll get a bunch of hits.

Below info from Gary, whom had a Custom made Crash resistant racecar type fuel cell from below contacts......Don't know if size would be an issue for a smaller header jpeg attached of his tank>>>
