Please be aware that the PFA have issued a safety alert grounding all Europa's until inspected.

Sorry Chaps,
That would be UK only-based Europas are grounded
Europa owners in other countries should examine their tailplanes
as suggested for balance and then go about their business.

Ira,
With every respect intended….. IMHO you should be advising all our overseas brethren to not only check for balance but also for SLOP BETWEEN EACH TAILPLANE (Or STABILATOR as they call them.) and ensure it is dimensionally within permitted limits.
Regards (notwithstanding I’m not an official authority!)

Hi Bob,
Actually detection of control slop, or deadband is part of my preflight
inspection for each flight for all surfaces.
Bud Yerly and I were just reminiscing this afternoon about an XS that once
came into the shop with 1/2 inch play between stabilator sides

Looking at the PFA rear attachment point bulletin. What is a “tap test”?
I have no slop between tailplanes but about ¼ between trim tabs due to play in the hinges (as yet unused). Is this normal?

Hi William,
You tap on epoxy-glass-sandwich surfaces. If it does not sound right, its
wrong.
It's a good method for checking delamination.
