Can someone who is about the same building as me please confirm or deny that the side firewall drawing is wrong on 6-B-7.

OK turn to the page and look at the top Engine mount location. On the drawing it shows the bottom of 6B7-2 as level with 6B7-1. Now if you add the width of 6B7-1 30mm and the 20 mm of the Langle that adds up to 50mm. The width of 6B7-2 is 60mm How can they be level at the top and bottom as the drawing shows.. ??? I have the latest set

My firewall has the 10mm split and that is what made it not jell when putting in the top firewall bolt.

So what gives have I made a mistake or is the drawing wrong?

Chris.

I went out and measured my plane (vintage 2000/2001). My parts match the
dimensions you cite and those on the 3/06 plans. What is different is that
neither the top or the bottom of 6B7-2 line up with anything. The top is
about 5 mm above the top edge of the standard L and the bottom is about 5 mm
below the lower edge of 6B7-1. So 5+5+20+30=60 and all is right with the
world. I don't see anything critical in the vertical position of 6B7-2. As
long as the rivets through the L and 6B7-1 are far enough from the bends in
6B7-2 and the upper motor mount brackets 6B6-4 fit you should be fine.

Chris:

I just went out and looked at my firewall which I completed last week. The
measurements are approx the same as yours. As Craig said the top and
bottom of 6B7-2 do not line up with anything. I work on the premise that
the drawings show the relative position of the components but not their
absolute position, the measurements take care of that.

OH No.
My top lines up and the bottom is out by 10mm.. I think I will need to check every measurement again as I dont want to progress with my top Longerons if I have to make a new Firewall. The main thing would be the Engine bolt locations for the engine mount as they are the critcal items..

Chris - I think you will be fine. As others have said, there doesn't seem to be anything too critical about the height of the rear channel. Mine is relatively close to lined up at the bottom, which means the rear channel is higher than the L-angle at the top (whereas others have obviously said theirs doesn't line up at top or bottom). The reason I think you will be fine is that the place I did have a little trouble was in that my engine mounts were really tight against the bottom flange of the rear channel. I would have liked to have another few mm room. You have that room b/c your rear channel is lower than mine. I would also point out that the photo guide shows plenty of room between the flange of the channel and the engine mount - so yours (as opposed to mine) seems to be better.

p.s. I tried to send this direct, but your email doesn't seem to valid. Any idea what gives?

I was also in the same boat that you are. There is a
conflict with the two drawings. I drew the firewall
assembly in autocad to check to see if there were any
more gotchas. If you can read these drawings, I can
send them to you. Pls specify the autocad revision you
need.

Thanks Ken for the drawing offer
They just installed Autodesk Inventor (2008) at work so send in what ever version you have it would be very much appreciated, and I should be able to read it.

regards
Chris

Hello Ken,

A question; I am also plans building but currently still working
on the wings so the firewall is still far away, still eventually
I hope to reach that point, could you also make the drawing
available (for instance as PDF) on the file share site?

Thanks,
