Anyone know the background on this plane? Can you commander experts fill me in on the Mr RPM executive 800 conversion? Reputation, performance, etc. What is the max pressure differential on these?

Seems like it'd be one hell of a capable airplane.

Phil

Hello Phillip,

I expect there are guys on the list who can give you a run-down on the performance of the Turbo 800 680FLP.

What I can tell you is that only 36 680FLP's were built, with two of these subsequently converted to another Model (1 to 680FL, 1 to 680T).

Of the remaining 36, 13 have had the Mr RPM Turbo 800 conversion. Original engines were Lycoming IGSO-540-B1A or -B1C.

I think Tylor Hall knows this plane, so no doubt he will have some input. 'Wing Commander' Gordon may also have 'inspected' it, but I'm not sure.

Serial Number is 1477-5 (the 1,477th Commander built, and the 5th Model 680FLP). Was first Certificated on December 27th 1964.

I haven't traced any accident damage, but I think there was a Form 337 dated August 4th 2004 outlining repairs to lower right fuselage and belly.
That might indicate a collapse of the Right MLG, so it may be prudent to ask.

I'd like to know what the "New Full Length Blades" are. Anyone any idea what blade model is involved?

Judging by the amount of rust visible on the brake rotor in the pictures, that airplane hasn't flown in a while. Also, where are the engine cowlings? You usually don't take them off unless you're doing some pretty in-depth work...

<?xml:namespace prefix="v" /><?xml:namespace prefix="o" /><![endif]--> bc, 47RR was involved in a prop strike on the right side due to a mechanic hooking the hydraulic lines up backwards. the prop was borrowed off of 2001m and it was replaced with new, unfortunately the left one was illegal so now they are both new on 2001m. I suspicion that since the a/c had no props on its sale there may be more in its history. mason

So the turbo 800 is a reliability and high altitude bump, from 380 to 400 hp and supercharged to turbocharged.

Wonder what the single engine ROC is at gross.

It does look like it has been sitting a while. Bankruptcy auction?

Hi Phillip,

Yes, I forgot to mention that the Turbo 800 modification involved Rajay Turbochargers being installed on the IO-720s, under STC SE62WE.

I too would like to know what the performance figures are for the Turbo 800.

Presumable factory figures supplied to Jane's "All The World's Aircraft", the Single Engined ROC is stated to be 252fpm., although earlier editions quoted 215fpm. These were at Sea Level and no doubt "standard atmospheric conditions".

So, at that configuration, it’s also just hanging in the air waiting for a sky hook.
