I have AeroComp 2850# amphibious Superfloats for my Experimental CompAir 4HP. Empty weight 1850#; max gross 2850#. These floats have a retractable main wheel and fixed tailwheel (one on the back of each float).
The plane was registered as an Amphib, but has never flown on floats. In 3 weeks I want to start getting it on the amphib floats. Aerocomp claims you don't need water rudders. Everybody else says they're a must.
Does anybody know of a source for bolt-on water rudders -- preferably for a large experimental (so they're less expensive). I haven't called Edo or other PMA manufactures. I am not sure they would sell spare parts for use on a different float. I'm sure they're also expensive, but in a pinch I would use them because I think something will be necessary.
I am hoping to avoid something custom, although the wheels on the back of the floats may interfere with standard water rudders.
Thanks,
Jim

Jim,
Puddlejumper has WR for the smaller floats I use. Here is the info they
sent me re pricing for the single WR kit. I do not have them installed
but manage OK as I do very little docking.

Quote: | Dear John,
The water rudder is a complete package that is easily installed on the
floats at anytime. It is a single rudder.
The cost is 425.00 $ + shipping.
I also wanted to let you know that the e-mail address you used is no longer
valid. The new adresses are either p.vinet(at)videotron.ca or
mvinet(at)puddlejumper.com
Hoping this information to your entire satisfaction.
Best regards
Patrick Vinet eng.

Check out Murphy Aircraft and Montana Floats. Both sell experimental floats
in that size range. I know Murphy will sell parts.
