Members,
Those of you who live in the south as I do are well aware of the extremes of heat we experience during the summer months and when taxiing or doing your power-on pre-flight the heat becomes unbearable. The block you see in the picture I have enclosed is an item I dreamed up to keep the heat down during all ground operations in my ZodiacXL. Even with one of the Koger sun shades the cockpit gets very hot on the ground.

Is there some kind of hold-down for the canopy in case of a tail wind?

I bought a piece of steel strap from the local Ace hardware store. It
was about 3/16" thick and an inch wide and had holes in it at regular
intervals. I enlarged a hole at one end to fit over the latch pin on my
canopy rail. I bought a replacement latch pin from the "Help" display at
a local auto parts store and installed this pin in the other end of my
steel strap. Now when I want to prop open the canopy of my Zodiac while
taxing, I stick the latch pin on the end of my steel strap into the
canopy latch and slip the hole on the other end over the latch pin on
the canopy rail. I think I paid less than ten dollars for the parts and
the assembly only weighs a few ounces and takes up very little space.
Works like a charm.
