I have the video edited and if anyone is interested, contact me off list -
lcfitt(at)sbcglobal.net It runs about 32 minutes.
$7 will cover costs including shipping. Drop an email and I will respond
with my address and ship the same day. Drop a check in the mail and they
they will rub shoulders enroute.
AAQ (Answers to Anticipated questions)
1 - Always fly the airplane - Sometimes I don't get everything coordinated
and will not mess with the camera while in the sterile cockpit period - take
off or landing. Sort of a priority issue.
2 - The audio -
a) There is no mike input to the camera. Using the camera built in
microphone would produce only wind noise because that it is where it is -
Out front in the wind.
b) I use a portable digital recorder that records on compact flash cards.
It is new to me and I am still in the learning curve. Mike gain was set a
bit too high - there is nothing automatic on it.
3 - Final Cut Express, DVD Studio Pro, Toast on a Mac G5.
4 - The edit took the better part of three days.
5 - Did you enjoy the edit - Yes and no. I like re-experiencing the trip
especially the audio. I find it extremely frustrating at times though,
because some important sequences are unusable or entirely missing. When
flying with a group as I do, it is very rarely possible for a second take on
any scene. One exception - when we were ready to depart Cameron Park, we
got a cell call from the Jackson group saying they would be another ten
minutes before TO. That gave us another half hour in the run up area before
they would be overhead and frankly, a loss of concentration. Everything got
shut down and it wasn't until edit time that I became aware that the camera
was not recording as we departed CP. The scene of the CP TO was a take
two - shot early morning three days later. The TO at Shelter Cove the
same - record button neglected. I expected a long taxi to the threshold end
of the runway, but because of wind strength and I guess the longing for
home, we did an intersection departure at the short end. I just did the
prudent thing and flew.
