Due to the recent change of reduction drive on my VW powered MKIIIC I decided to trailer my plane to Scott Trask's in Iron Mountain. MI and fly in to Oshkosh from there. I got busy and finished up my trailer and loaded it up for the first time today. The attached photo is the plane loaded with one of the clam shell doors open. Note I have removed the trailer wheels for loading. I will be posting the trailer on George Alexander web site when I get back. I will be heading out Sunday with the trailer/plane and flying into Oshkosh on Monday.

Rick/All,
Please post a link to pics like this in the future. It really hamstrings those of us stuck with dial-up service.
Thanx,

I am not a computer guru, but if I understand the system correctly, if there
is something on your server and you check the mail, it begins to download.
It is not a question of opening it, it just starts coming through, so I
think you are missing the point, it is not something he has any control
over. On the other hand, if all pictures are resized to use minimum
bandwidth, even big pictures come through quickly on dial up.

I like the pictures, its much nicer to have the picture there to click on. If you are having a problem with dial ups and pictures, number one, use the web based forum instead of email. The pictures dont load unless you click on them.
If you must use the old, clunky email system, change your email settings not to look at the attachments.
Either way I have to agree with planecrazzy, to expect everyone to not use the features of the forum just to cater to one person is unreasonable.

Mike/ Matt,
At least there IS more than one person who doesn't seem to understand
the problem of posting large files directly to the list.
I'm an advocate for the guys with dial up connections even though it
is not a problem for me.
This is a problem the list administrator should FIX permanently. It
is not realistic to expect that everyone will remember to limit file
size when they post. This is a service that the list administrator
provider can provide automatically.
It is also one of the things for us to remember when the annual fund
drive for these lists comes around.
I appreciate the Kolb list and want EVERYBODY to enjoy it as much as
I do without their being reproached for their inability to deal with
large digital e-mail files.

JettPilot,
It is even more "unreasonable" for you to be unwilling to click on a
link to see a picture if it will help another person be able to also
enjoy the Kolb List.

Mike,
Sorry to upset you, and no need to shout. We're all civil folks
here, hopefully.
I don't 'open' them, they load automatically. Problem is, when
attachments come through, it hangs my connection. Have to close OE, reopen,
redial, etc...
And I believe Matt has outlined repeatedly the procedures for making
a link instead of posting the pic in the message, and the fact he prefers
that method.
And where's YOUR 'DNA', Mike?? Sheesh...

Very true. I got fed up with oversize images & set up my email client to
reject anything over 500K. This solves the problem of locking up my
phone line, but I don't get to see a lot of stuff I'd like to see.
What seems to be lost on people like Mike is that it's pointless to send
images bigger than around 100K for viewing on a typical computer
screen. The monitor just doesn't have the resolution to show that much
detail. It also seems to be lost on him that methods of reading email,
like choice of airplane, is personal preference. I find web based email
clients and forum based lists extremely clunky & slow, even when viewed
on a broadband connection.
It's a real shame he takes that attitude, especially when the Matronics
list manager has provided him the tools to upload even his huge images
if he desires, without penalizing the rest of us.

Eugene,
Many pictures are not available on the web. I post a fair number of pictures here, none of which are anywhere else on the web. Many people just have pictures in their computer that they want to share, without having to put up a web page. The forum based pictures are a great system.
There is a VERY easy cure to this problem, just use the web based forum, you dont download the pictures unless you click on them.
If someone MUST use the clunky, old email system, set your email client not to download attachments automatically.
Either way, everyone is happy, and most of us can take advantage of being able to post and see pictures on the forum.

I guess I started this photo attachment discussion by posting the photo of
my trailer. I'm sorry but sometimes its just better to post a photo. The
photo was a large photo 1600+KB that I shrunk down to 254KB before sending
it. I know you guys that have dial up service had a problem with it but for
crying out loud how picky can you get! You guys want every one else to
change which I did by shrinking it down but you will not make the suggested
changes to your computers avoid the photo down loads your self. It would
seem that now is the time to make those changes and quit crying about the
attachments. This is the only comment I will make on this subject.
I'm back from Oshkosh and had a wonderfull time. I flew out of Oshkosh about
6:15AM on Saturday while John H was getting his beauty sleep and arrived
home with my Kolb trailer in tow around 11:30PM.
I camped in the Ultralight campground with Mark German, John Hauck, and
Scott Trask. We had some great laffs about Mark Germans incounter with the
EAA welcome wagon. Later in the week two firestars(non list) joined us but
most of the week we we were greatly out numbered.
I had GPS/Comm problems on the flight from Iron Mountin to Oshkosh and back
but thanks to John H's suggestion I found it wasn't my GPS/Comm. I still
haven't narrowned it down to weather it is the antenna, PTT, Headset, or
intercom but...
For the future of Oshkosh flyins I would like to suggest that we start
sending E-mails to the EAA and poltely suggest that it would be nice to
maybe have A trash barrel, A porta potty, and maybe move the sea plane
shower a bit closer to where the people are. The area of concern is the
ultralight/LSA plane/camping area.
The numbers of campers, vendors, vendors planes and spectators were
noticable reduced this year.

Just a guess on my part. I think there are a bunch of dealers that have been
selling their planes as ultralights and can't as a LSA. The true ultralight
only dealers can't afford the dealer charges at Oshkosh.
