Blarson - Thanks. I've been wondering how close the bird might be to a faster 701 (the type's only downside). I'll be patient for the pics.

Wow, ONLY $109,000. That's only $100,000 more than a scratch built 601xl. They're gonna ruffle some feathers in the homebuilding community for sure. Mr. Green

Neat looking plane though. Actually, I think I like the original C150s better.

Tracy Stone asked: "Does anyone know where a picture of this aircraft can be seen." It is in the latest issue of AOPA Pilot Magazine, but to make it easy for you I posted a picture of the Patriot (and my 601) on my blog: http://mostlyflying.blogspot.com/

Thank you for the link. That's a great picture; probably better than
what's in the magazine. Smile

Interesting. Looks like a much more spit and polish to the airframe
construction than the 701/801 with their boxy edges. Guess you need
that these days to compete with the plastic planes, whether or not it
helps your aerodynamics. Smile

Frank, Thanks for satisfying my curiosity - no need to hold out for the CH750. The Patriot doesn't have the same functional beauty as the 701 (it looks like a slightly classier C150), so I'll be happy to save approaching a 100K and live with an aircraft that's a few kts slower but which has stacks of character.

Decision made.

Regards,

There is a picture of the AMD Patriot at this N

Looks like the 750 that was referred to in the RAA article several years ago

Greetings,

I was at Oshkosh on Wednesday and made an effort to find the AMD Patriot. The only info I got was from a gent at the Zenith booth who said it wasn't at the show and the AOPA article was premature. He didn't volunteer much information other than that and seemed a little peeved that I was asking about it (and I think he wished I would stop asking and go away). Is there trouble in the family? What's up?

That is interesting news. I hadn't heard anything about them other than the AOPA article, and I guess this explains it.

I wonder what is going on? Have they still not decided to produce the airplane yet?

Anyway, it is all very strange for an aircraft that I had heard could be introduced as early as October.

I just finished reading the article today in AOPA Pilot, and noted that
instead of the traditional Hoerner tips, they are using the droop tips, very
similar to Cessna's and Mathieu was emphatic that this was an improvement in
performance in reducing wing tip vortices. So if the "new" tip design is an
improvement, will it be incorporated in the rest of the line?

That looks really nice! Besides the slightly longer take-off roll, it looks like everything is better than the 701; cruise speed, payload, top speed. I wonder what the differences (design-wise) are between this and the 701?

No slats, wheel pants, strut fairings, wheel pants and a sleeker design.

They must have made some design changes in order to get a faster Vne..I wonder if they could be incorporated into the 701 design...
