Hi All,
Last night a fellow I met at the airport gave me a call. He's an avionics tech and is willing to bring his equipment out to my hanger and check my mode C transponder. I believe he's also going to check over the regular altimeter etc.
He says he'll beat the price an FBO would charge. What's a fair fee for having this work done?
Thanks,
Ken Davy

when the transonder installation in my RV9 was certified, I flew to the tech's location where he brought his box out on the ramp. After plugging everthing in and getting his readings he charged me $25. Seemed a bargain.

.. talking of which - how about you, guys on the other side of the big
pond, are you getting ready for mode S? Here, in Europe, it should be
compulsory for GA from April 08. But as far as I know, nobody is in a
hurry to trade their old mode C. I even flew last week across Europe
without transponder at all. Okay, I had to stay under 1,000 ft most of
the time and since I needed a flight plan to cross borders, I had to
report my position now and then. But it's still possible.
Cheers,

I paid $175, and that included having to sort out two wires that were
swapped internally inside the altitude encoder. I got the whole job
done, and was issued a written document to put in my aircraft logbook.
