Hey Gang,

I just wanted to let you know that my RV-9 flew its maiden flight this morning.

Tad flew wing w/ Radomir riding shotgun. Dale provided great insight and was a big help when one of my P-mags decided to retime itself and attempt to destroy my engine on the 2nd flight. After we set the timing back to where it belonged, the third flight was uneventful.

Everyone hears how slow a -9 can fly but I was mesmerized by the airspeed indicator sitting just above 40 mph when it stalled with full flaps.

All three landings were done with an approach speed of 65 mph and I think I might be able to work it down to 60 after I get some more time in this thing. That long, flat bottom wing really doesn't want to stop flying.

I'm exhausted and need a shower but the best way to see the pictures and read more about it is from this thread Radomir started on the VAF forum: http://www.vansairforce.com/community/showthread.php?p=144720&posted=1#post144720

Thanks everyone for the help! It really does take a village to build and RV. (Before you say it Tad, I wasn't saying a village of idiots.)

Bill

Congratulations, Bill (and Nora)

The kind of first flight everyone should have - even the P mag problem was the right touch. Gets your attention and Reminds you we are violating the laws of gravity - but easily fixed.

Great photos by Radomir and ones to remind you of this day for the rest of your life (as if you would need any reminders).

Fly safe

Bill,

Congratulations! I'm betting that there is no doubt that all the endless hours of drilling, dimpling, deburring and riveting were all well worth the effort. Well done.
