Guys,

  Did anyone see a diesel 701 that went to Oskosh ??  I just saw a picture of a white 701 that had "turbo-diesel" on the cowling.

Vulcan Diesel is what you’re talking about. They were at both Sun-N-Fun and Oshkosh. Great Idea , little progress. Costs equal to Rotax 912S

 I saw it and talked to the guys responsible for  it.  As I recall, the engine is a new design based on some commonly  available auto components, like a Honda auto engine block. I wasn't that  impressed with it since it appeared that it wasn't ready for "prime time".   It looked to me like there were still a lot of bugs to work out before it  becomes something we can take seriously.

 These guys have been doing "top secret" diesel  projects for years for the military under the name of a different  company. The Raptor engine they showed in the 701 at Sun n' Fun &  Oshkosh this year has been designed as an alternative to Rotax installations  (weight, mounting, prop C/L). It has several hundred hours on the dyno already,  but still isn't ready to fly just yet. Once the final design work & testing  is complete and it's ready to bring to market, it is my understanding that  they're going to target OEM's only, and not make it available to the global  homebuilder community...
