Hello Members
I am wondering if you guys can tell me what I would be looking for while trying to determine if a set of quick-build wing that I bought are series 4 or 5 and what weight rating they would be. The seller said they were series 5 but I am not confident he really knew for sure.... The tubes are .065ish in thickness. The
wings were made in 1995 . The part # on one of the ribs is 72002. The spar tubes are about 162-3/16" long. Because of where they are stored right now it is hard to measure the distance from the root end to the insert and the insert it's self. The measurement from the outboard end to the insert is 31-1/4" on the rear spar and 30-5/8" on the front spar. My series 4-1200 manual says the insert should be 70" in from the root end, is this the same for the series 5? Is the insert the same length for the 4 and 5 variations ? Are the strut attach brackets ( part # 23005 front, 23006 and 23007 rear in the 4 manual) the same for the two different models?

My series 4 manual calls the "Spar Attach Reinforcement fittings" part # 22002 front and #22003 rear is this the same for the series 5? What is the thickness of the 4130 they are to be made from?

The jury strut brackets (series 4 part #23011) are to be made out of .040" 4130 is this the same as series 5 ?

The lift struts I have are approx. .900" dia (with a little paint) does this mean anything??

What is the difference between series 4 and 5 flaperons?

If someone would like to answer me directly my email "keith at intev dot ca" is down until Monday in the mean time I can be reached at "intev at bellnet dot ca"

answers to this post would be greatly appreciated !!!

Keith,
Follow this closely, I'll try not to confuse you. On my classic 4, I have one wing built by the factory in 1994, and one wing built by me in 2001. the spars are the same length you have.

The 1994 factory built wing incert is 54 inches long and is installed 70 inches from the root end.

The wing kit I purchased from Skystar in 2001 has a letter attached explaining that in 1997 they started supplying a longer, stronger spar incert with all wing kits for the model 3, 4-1050, 4-1200, XL, Speedster, Classic 4, and 1200 gross weight Vixen (pre series 5)

The 2001 spar incert is 60 inches long and the instructions say to install it 73.25 inches from the root end for the models 3, 4 and XL, 74.25 inches for the speedster and 70.75 for the Vixen 1200.

I'll let you do the math for the incert to tip dementions.

Also, my Classic 4 lift struts built in 1994 are a full one inch outside diameter. This information may help in your detective work on the wings or at least help you determine if they will work for you..

Tom,
Thanks for the reply.
I will be doing a bit more measuring very soon. I would like to hear from a series 5 builder as to the part number comparison or if possible maybe receive some drawings for comparison . The strut diameter has me wondering??

Regards,
Keith
