Hi, does any one know if the Root of the XS wing is reinforced at the leading edge in a similar manner to the trailing edge for standing on?

No it is not!

I used to sit on mine and lean back to get in as this was a very easy
way of entry.

The deflection of the skin caused the filler and paint to crack along
the front of the spar, both port and stbd wings. I talked to Andy and he
advised it was more heavily skinned in that area but not supported by
ribs to make it suitable for sitting on.
The repair was to refill and paint

Well thats exactly how i get in - by sitting on the leading edge and swinging in, untill i took a 16 stone passenger down the the scilly isles last monday and noticed the section between the leading edge and the spar flexing conciderably with his weight on there,
thanks bill and sue - looks like ill stick to the way its meant to be.

Is there another way to get in? I always sit on the wing and throw my
feet in.

It might be “standard” for the left side of the pond but on this side it would qualify as a “fat Bast/*d” by 40lbs+!

We refer to it as manly - which I realize on your side of the pond is characterized by Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery - we like Rambo - at least there is more action.

He has to lift his body in!
That's the way I did it when Thomas Scherer took me flying a few weeks
after my big mistake. (not accepting a controlled crash)
I had lost 35lbs from a fitish 170 lbs so there wasn't too much to lift.

Jeff,

I appreciate your sense of humor...but, my question was a serious one.
With the trigear, do you still end up sitting on top of the head rest
while entering/exiting, or are other gymnastics involved?

Sorry Fred, I couldn't resist the fun. Yes I sit on the headrest and
slid in. When I saw this thread I wondered if someone had a better way
but I'm following the lead of most tri-flyers. Sit on the wing, lift
the but to the headrest then slid in. If there is a better way I'm all
ears.

I concur with Jeff's method of entering the tri gear. To get out I do find
that gravity is a great help in that once sitting on the headrest, by
flicking feet outside it is then possible to slide off the front edge of the
wing but normally with one hand placed about 1 to 2 feet out board on the
wing about mid spar. This avoids standing on the wing at any time.
It certainly was essential to reinforce the bottom of the door cill as I use
that to lift myself in and out at times during the process.

Fred,

I slide over the leading edge with my butt, then swing my feet in and
push myself up and over the door sill and lower myself into the seat.
Not necessary to sit on the headrest, if you don't want to. My 83 year
old dad has no trouble doing it...
