Why do powered parachutes require so much more wing area than fixed wing ultralights of the same weight and payload?
Most PPCs have wing areas about double the size of fixed wings.

The shape of the wing.
If you have a cloth covered wing which has detached the cloth from the top
of the ribs it will balloon out like a PPC. This will cause a great loss of
lift, not to mention speed.
