I have removed the baggage area floors, rear seat pans, and started on the rear seat floors this evening. I drilled out the 16 or so pop rivets holding the F1016C (I think) floor. I am unable to budge the floor and cannot figure out what is holding it in position. Any insights will be much appreciated.

I remember them being really really tight. I don't remember what tricks
to use to pull them out, but I do remember them taking some effort to
remove. I think they hung up on the sides.

I also had a lot of trouble getting them out. What I remember is that if you get it wedged as you are coming out it is very easy to crimp the turned up edge. As a matter of fact I got mine out but when I was reinstalling them later I got the left one wedged and ended up tearing it up and had to order another one. The new one was just as tight but I just took my time and tried to keep it even on each side as I went back down and did not have anymore problems. So just don't get mad and to rough.
Sorry I don't have anymore advise.

Same issue with mine. I used a dental type tool (pointy end with 90 degree
bend) to reach into some of the rivet holes and pull - really hard.

David:

I have the regular "slo build" kit and put mine in last week. Can you
get any part of it to move? Possibly then slip a cleco in the hole so
you can get some more pull on the pan? It is one of the few places
where I think the match drilling process does more harm than good. I
made some loops of tie wire and slipped them in adjacent holes on each
of the four corners so I could get them to move once they were in
place. I also had to use a thin paint scraper to get the edge to come
over the doubler on the back wall.

Also, I think the outside rivets were the most painful ones of the whole
kit. Serous consideration to pop rivets here. I'd rather do the wing
skins again.

My Fuselage Kit shows up next week, so what's the reason you are pulling a floor that has already been riveted in? It sounds like it has to be done because so many have commented about it.

On mine, it was only temporarily/partially riveted with just a handful of
blind rivets per floor pan panel.

The main reason to pull the floor panels as I understand it, is for
inspection. So that you can verify that the QB assemblers did their job
correctly.

The access is also needed for priming and sound insulation (if you are doing
either of those) and it also helps with the conduit runs (which you could
probably do without pulling the floor pans, but as long as you have them
off, it seems much easier.) At least those are the reasons why I did it.

On my fuse and wings I found numerous little odd tasks buried in the plans
that were not done. I don't trust any plan step I can't visually verify.

Best Regards,
Patrick #40715

There are also quite a few people who have found hardware and tools
left under the floors and in hidden places. I almost didn't need
to buy any more drill bits and clecos since they sent so many
from the Philippines with my fuse. Wink

OK, now I understand. Would it also be handy for putting in Comm antennas underneath? Maybe a sonogram would do but I wouldn't want to know it's sex... Very Happy

David:
Tough devil, ain't it? It's just a really tight fit.
It helped to slide thin pieces of card behind the rear flange, and
beside or over rivet heads, etc. that were tight spots.
By sheerest luck, I had saved an old Japanese saw blade - ~ 0.016"
thick - and ground the teeth off. That worked even better.
Maybe steel shim stock would also work.
Clecoes make very helpful handles as noted by several folks on the list.

Also check the gear weldments as mine were misdrilled

After reading your site Tim, I was hoping to find a Sioux rivet gun or
perhaps a complete box set of reamers.

Unfortunately, the only thing they gave me in the secret compartments was a
few dead spiders and an unused 426-3 rivet.

I did notice a lot of scratches and dirty finger prints on the undersides of
the panels though. I guess they let the new workers practice on those.

But at least they gave me a factory baseball cap with the fuse.

Best Regards,
Patrick

Thanks to all for the tips. I have been out of town and will now know how to approach this when I get home.
Once again, this list is priceless.

Just to round out opinions and possibly to speak for a silent few, I am
not pulling the floors on my #40605.
