Jim,

I was looking at Kit Log Pro's website and found my way to your ightning log: http://www.mykitlog.com/pequeajim

I noticed you have added some material to the stainless steel firewall.

If you are not too busy building, would you tell us about it please?

Yes, I started keeping all my log entries in KitLog Pro as it allows me to organize things quite nicely and is easy to enter the data and pictures. The biggest benefit are the reports that it generates that are basically two clicks, and you have a detailed log to print with everything you need to present to the inspector for your airworthiness cert.

Anyway, I found out that the program will also publish your activities to their web site, and that is a LOT easier than what I am doing on my site. So, I published just my build activity at http://www.mykitlog.com/pequeajim, and will keep www.jimslightning.com as an informational site for Lightning users. It still has the videos and other stuff relating to the Lightning, but the build log is hosted by mykitlog.com.

On the firewall thing, that is a layer of fireproofing, (multilayered), that Ryan had in stock and we decided to use it on the firewall. I don’t remember the name of it; (maybe Ryan can help here), but I believe he got it from Aircraft Spruce.

Check out this .pdf from them, http://www.aircraftspruce.com/pdf/2008Individual/Cat08128.pdf

It should withstand heat up to around 2000 degrees and is very light.

It is glued to the firewall, and attaching items on to it like brackets is no problem.

Jim!

Thanks Jim.

At the Homecoming, we saw that the muffler comes within a finger-width of the cowling on both sides. Someone suggested that putting a small square, say 5"x5" on the inside of each side of the cowling, would be insurance for the paintwork.

That would help. I used to do that on my 40% RC airplane cowlings with the tight installations.
