George, I am really looking to put the Dynon 180 in the RV-8a I'm building and you are the first fellow I've come across that's flying one. I know from the photos it will split screen, but can it mode to just engine info ? How big is the screen ? Can you see it in detail ? Approx how many inches from the screen are you eyeballs when seated in your XL? Distance in the RV-8a eyeball to panel is about 28 inches. How was the installation kit and probe kits to work with ? What amp breaker is needed ? Will it operate with capacitor fuel sensors inside the tanks instead of float senders ? Hope I'm not beating this up, but I don't want to send a bunch of doe for a system that I can't use. I might even retro fit my XL. At this time I plan to keep her and sell the 8 when it's complete. Best regards, Bill of Georgia 601XL-3300 120 hrs

I've attached a picture showing the relative sizes of all the popular EFIS units: AFS, Dynon, GRT, MGL, BMA and Garmin. What is missing is the coming MGL Stratomaster Voyager which is about the size of the Garmin 600: about 10 by 7 inches.

The image is from the "general" folder in the photos section of the Stratomaster's user group on Yahoo but the original was posted by Rick Mellor on the www.vansairforce.net site.

Here are links to each of the manufactures:

Bill,
The D180 will split screen or go full screen on both the EFIS and engine monitor modes. It really is a D100 and a D120 in one box. The Screen has a 7" diagonal, and can easily be reached and read from the 601xl's seats. The D180 will work with capacitive probes, but a Cap to Voltage converter is needed. We do sell them, call for pricing. The D180 installation guide is available on our website and should answer your other questions.

Hope this helps!

Bill--
I just got your request for info and see that Dan covered most of your technical questions. In addition let me explain that I'm using the D100 for my EFIS and the D180 for engine instruments and EFIS backup, so the D180 is in front of the copilot seat. Absolutely no problem reading anything on the screen fron the pilot side. I belive the breaker is 3 amp.
Both instruments are great instruments and I'm really glad I chose them.

Bill--
Would love to trade rides anytime you're up in New Hampshire! As to the Jab, love the looks and extra horsepower, but for reliability I'll keep the Rotax thank you
