Was at the airport the other day. Couple of women were pulling out a four place Diamond aircraft...brand new. I am betting it cost close to $ 200K. I am not really a fan of high price certified aircraft, but I was being polite and asking all of the questions about engine and stuff. Asked about the cruise speed, and was told it was very fast, 120. Assume that is knots. One of them asked what I flew, and I pointed to my KF on anphib floats, and she said, "Boy, is that ever cute." I kept my composure....said thanks. Cute!!! Argggg!!

Let's see...
If I were to buy a $245K+ aircraft, and fly it for 1000 hrs, I would have spent $245.00\hr to fly.( before actual expences of ownership...maint., hanger, insurance etc)
Nope.

Guess I have not kept up with this thread. Who decided the useful life of the aircraft is 1000 hours. And was the aircraft destroyed on the last flight. Got to be worth something don't ya think? Now if you are not going to fly enough each year to cover hangar and maintenance, then by all means aside from convenience then renting makes sense. BTW you need insurance on rentals most every where. The FBOs insurance company will try and collect from you.
