can you adjust the GSC prop for winter flight? I was flying last week and noticed that if you pulled back on the stick a little the rpm would go down just a little but the EGT would drop 75 degrees. at full RPM on clime I get 6300 max and EGT s are low but at level flight it may go 6600 and the EGT,s go up

Malcolm, Your prop seems to be ok rpm wise but you never said what the EGT temp is ..... wide open it will likely be low like 1000F or so but in cruise rpm range of 5600 to 6000 rpm you will want to keep it under 1200F . Since your rpm range does seem ok, you could lower your clip on each carb one notch which will raise your needle up and make you richer. That is what i do every year when the temps get sub 40F or so.

Check your plugs for colour as well to give you an idea of what is going on inside. The EGT gauges are a great guide to changing conditions but plugs will tell the tale. Light to med brown colours on the insulator tip would be what i was shooting for to start. Pre mix engines will run a little darker than an oil injected one.

Also you never said what size prop you have or what gear box ratio. I can tell you that my GSC 68" 3 blade with 3 to 1 box will be about 6200 static and 6800 wide open for reference.

Here is a few pages i made on plug info.

I believe the prop should be set for 6400 WOT, 6200 rpm static. Sounds like your prop is set a tad too fine I don't think I'd change it as you might like to have the extra revs for the occasional times you are at gross.

Depends on the prop Noel.
Kitfoxes switched from a 66 to 68 3 blade GSC and i have found that setting the 68" at 6200 ish static will give you about 6800 WOT with a 3 to 1 box.

To get 6400 WOT your static would likely be less than 5800 and you would suffer take off performance.

Now my WARP 68" 3 blade is a Wide tip with a bit more bite and I am 6000 static and 6700 WOT with it .

And your EGTs wll be affected with each prop adjustment as well at outside Climate and temps.

It all a game of tweaking, optimizing and compromising your prop but once set it makes the Kitfox not just a great STOL performer but a joy to fly.
