I think you both are talking about two different accidents. The one I mentioned happened to Howard Firm from Virginia Mn in a Kitfos 4. He told me about finding the bird (I think a seagull) lodged behind the engine. Jim Chuk, Avid MK IV, Chisholm Mn

Deke, that is the way I remember the demise of the "Purple Monster". I recall that the pilot had an encounter with an eagle a while before that. The eagle hit the prop and went through it and hit the windshield with no damage...to the prop or windshield. I think it was a Warp Drive prop. Do not archive

No, Jim. I think we're all talking about the same accident in Howard Firms Purple Monster. It still amazes me that a bird could get past the spinning prop and into the engine compartment, but it apparently did. Howard had some extremely bad luck, especially after building another Fox and having it burn when the hangar caught fire. Has anybody talked to him in the past year?

I haven't heard a word about Howard. He was kind enough to send me,
gratis, the reamers that I needed to start building my plane way back
in Sept. of 2004. This was just one of the many acts of kindness that
I've experienced from members of this group/list. Another reason that
I gladly give when it comes "pledge time" at Matronics.

I stand corrected. I never met Howard till after he was almost done with his last plane. I never saw his first one and
never heard that it had a name. With the mention of an eagle, I though it was two different accedents. I did call
Howard's place last summer, he had some leftover paint and I needed some, but his wife said he was working out of the country,
she didn't say where, but I got the impression it was in the middle East Thanks, Jim Chuk Avid MK IV MN
