What a spectacular day in New England to be flying. I know there are some non-Commander owners on the list. It's too bad they could not have been along today. Pre-heat at 7:15 to get launched in time for good sunlight on the first job site 250 miles away. The weather was a survey pilot's dream. Cyrstal clear, and almost no wind. Mount Washington and the Presidentials in New Hampshire had their tops covered with snow. Very unusual to be skimming 1000 feet over them in smooth air. There were 4 sites in working areas of the Maine forests. Moose country. Almost no wind, and no crab. Had budgeted 2 days effort and we got it done in one with a half hour of gas and sunlight left. A hot cup of coffee, a fill-up, and shooting the shit with the guys up in Millinocket. A great place for gas, almost to the Canadian border, with Mount Katahdin in the background. A nice local old-timer was being taught to work the pumps. Just had his first airplane ride ever, in a Citabria.

Don't usually listen to music when flying, I don't need to be entertained, but this far north there's no point in talking with anyone and we had some Van Morrison, Lowell George and Little Feat through the Bose on the way home again through the mountain ranges.

Some maple wood's in the stove, a good glass of wine at hand, and dinner's in the oven.

A good day to fly.

Steve

I can think of some “Commander moments” like that – gorgeous flying weather, scenery, music in the head phones. That’s what makes flying our own aircraft so special. Nicely said Steve.

Steve,

Aren't those just the days that make all the bad days worth it?
Non-aviation people just don't understand.

Ditto, Steve, I enjoyed sharing your day. I have many of the same moments in my Shrike and am at a loss of words to describe them. Thanks for putting into words what it is like to experience those moments.

Don
