Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I once saw a floatplane which had both spreader bars bowed down (bent). They had to be replaced. No other damage. In looking at the forces involved, tension on the diagonal braces is pulling the ends of the spreaders together. The only way this distance between the ends can shorten is by bowing down (or up).
If the struts attach to the floats inboard of the centerline of the floats then a hard landing would create a rotating moment about the attachment point which also contributes to a bowing down of the spreaders.

I'm in the process of rigging a set of floats using spreaders which may not be strong enough. To combat the above flexing, I'm going to ad a V cable above each spreader where the tops of the V are at the fuselage to strut attach brackets and the bottom is at the center of the spreader bar. There will be an eye bolt on the spreader, a continuous cable and a turnbuckle at one end. It will be just snug and maybe 3/32 cable.

Any thoughts?
Thanks
Peter
