Jos! congratulations! That's another dream come true, yes? Must be nice
to have a 20 km long runway, but is it into wind?

Yesterday i flew the ship from the airport to the lake in front of our place. It's nicely moored to the jetty now.
This was the first time the Woodcomp reverse prop came in use. The ice was wet and hence conventional braking action zero. Reversing and hitting the throttle really brakes about as good as the monowheel brake.
Tailwheel and rudder control during taxiing was good enough to keep track. It's nice to just have to walk to plane to fly, instead of driving to the airport

Hi! Jos ...well done, for a second I thought "WHAT'S THIS HE MUST HAVE A
SET OF FLOATS ON !" then I got my brain wound up !
It puts a whole new dimension on the Europa operation. I guess a set of
ski's would suffice for the trike too ? I'm half sad I didn't go the
reverse prop way !
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Regards
Bob H G-PTAG
PS you don't have a set of my Torque tube clamps fitted do you ?

Just an aside about Lapland, did you know that Jos heats his home with
the water in that lake? The water at the bottom of the lake is around
4deg C, -30C outside.Quite a special person is our Jos.

Hi All,
Graham:Yes, i have been dreaming about landing on the lake for years. The runway actually is only 8 km long, and 4 km wide. It's not difficult to select into wind.
At the same time i should mention that it is not all roses either
There are large objects like islands, smaller like fishing net markers, power cables, and not to forget, rotors and wind shear between the hills. Outside the airport the pilot is really on his own.
Bob, Skies on the tri-gear should not be too difficult. Close to impossible on the mono, like any other retractable. No clamp, no play (so far)
Airbear, I pick up heat behind the water radiator, in the place where normally the oil cooler would be. It' s under dimensioned now, and will be improved during the winter. My workshop is insulated and heated, no problems with -40 C outside, other then extremely low humidity, which has caused problems.
Graham, off topic, it's just a heat pump, like you all have in fridges and airco´s. Very efficient, 75% of the heating energy is taken from the lake.
Thanks for all the nice reactions you all!
Regards,
Jos Okhuijsen

Jos
one thing you need to check, when the airplane is cold soaked, the resin
will be brittle. I don't know what the limits on Ampreg are.
In the early days of flying glass gliders to hi altitude in winter,
(wave) several gliders were damaged ( had to be written off) when they
flew into rough air with the airframe cold.
regards
Graham
