How do you draw a straight line (center line) down the side of a piece of tube?

I held the tube on a flat surface and had someone help me by marking each end where it toucehd the surface, Then I drew a line between the two marks.

Is there a better way?

Colin:

You can use a straight piece of structrural angle (like 1x1x1/8 Alum. angle). It will nest on the outside diameter (O.D.) of the tube and you can mark your line down the edge of the angle. The legs of the angle need to be smaller than the O.D. of the tube. If you don't have small enough angle in your kit, Home Depot or hobby stores sell some fairly small sections.

Thanks Pat!

Following your suggestion, I used the 2" wide aluminum channel that is supplied for the rudder pedal supports. I was able to put the tube in the inside corner and use the edge as you suggested. Perfect!

Watch out for more dumb questions in the near future! Smile
