I know we have at least two aerial photo outfits on this net. Anyone able to help out my friend?

Photo Science has a Georgia office and I know keep a couple of aircraft there. I met one of the guys out of a St. Pete office at an industry convention. They do aerial mapping.
Aerial Cartographics is on the east coast, if I remember right. I'll get some names and numbers in a jiffy.....
Course neither one uses Commanders. I think Air Photographics is still using them out of West Virginny. Dave Owen might have some more info.

Aerial Cartographics out of Orlando. I think my Dad's buddy has long since retired from there. Chuck Woodward out of LKB on Long Island. They used to run Commanders doing all sorts of odd jobs.

Photo Science has an office right in St. Pete. (Wish I was in the harbor on a sailboat there right now.) That might help facilitate the ground portion of the survey. (Not that the other guys couldn't do just as god a job.)

Doesn't hurt to tell either one Col-East sent him...... It's a small industry.

Steve has suggested two excellent companies! (by the way, no comment on adding the cats to the exhaust stacks on Commanders, eh? I thought it was pretty funny... hehehe)...

David, I'm keeping a low profile (at least for a couple days anyway!). I used to have a lot of fun with a buddy from Texas when I worked in Seattle. He was a hardcore redneck son of a bitch, and we'd listen to Limbaugh in the early nineties and argue like cats and dogs. I miss him. (Oh for the good old days when the rednecks hated the federal government, and the liberals were trying to make it bigger.) Maybe we can get your bird to run on tofu?
Photo Science has a good rep around here. I thought to mention you guys, but that's a long cross country haul just to get the imagery. You guys aren't doing any of the actual mapping?

Yes, Joe Horn for President, no, tofu is out with the slimline nacells, and we go anywhere if the $ is right... (Short of some out of country locales) However, it depends on the project if we do the mapping... Pipe and power and roads are our mainstay anymore. Used to be counties, and states... Havent done many of those since the gov got involved doing the work for almost nil, and producing the work in a year or two, if then. Some of the clients have come back, but some of them like getting allot of bang for the buck, even if the information is somewhat to very dated. I guess it's all in what you really need. hehehe... A "redneck" eh? I am from the east side of Houston, and Pasadena... it was a mixed bag back then, but now I live in the middle of nowhere, and there is not much of a mix there at all... Not many ghetto boys if you know what I mean. Times have really changed...

We're seeing a lot of work going overseas. I seriously wonder if we'll ever see a town or county-wide job again. Most of the compilation work is going to India, and much larger multi-national companies are usually doing their flying. Even local ground surveyors are getting cut out of the loop. Most of our stuff is 20-1000 acre sites. Huge pressures to send work offshore. We don't want to. But almost everyone you are competing with does.
I thought it was the tofu that kept those nacelles slim?

Steve,
No Sir, pure American lean beef 100LL for our machine... hehe... Actually, been getting feedback about the India issue, and quite a few of the guys that went outside for a price break have come home to roost. Many people arent concerned with having a patchwork quilt for a final product... BUT we produce a very nice product, and looks are important to some, not just accuracy. One thing that cuts the cost over there is image replacement, or whatever they call it. If its not the main interest area, they use "generic" areas to fill in some blanks. I dont see how they do it, but I have been offered several prices on a similar project, and that was one thing they offered. I wouldn't even think about doing that, but obviously some do... Did you know that?

Nico,
David was just pulling my leg about sticking catalytic convertors on his 500A, after I goofed with him about the right using 'science' to deny global warming. He's got a sense of humor anyway.
Truth be told, after the first Nor'easter and chipping ice off the plow truck, shoveling out the hanger doors, and freezing your ass off filling the damned aircraft with gas; nobody up here cares if the planet heats up and turns Texas into a dry hot wasteland. We'll be fine, and Texas will stay the same.....
