Hey Kevin, although I'm not quite in MN, I get all of
my supplies delivered to MN and drive accross the
border to pick them up.

I have ordered most of my aluminum from Aircraft
Spruce and Specialty. Compair that to Wick's though
because some of their aluminum is cheaper.

Thanks for the reply, I've checked out Aircraft Spruce and Wicks, but there is a lot of metal fabrication in the the area so there has to be a local source. What are they getting for shipping Al sheets?

Well, not right at this second but normally yes, I am
in Fort Frances. There is also another CH-701 scratch
builder located in International Falls as well.

Kevin,
I bought my sheet and plate aluminum from Erickson Metals in Coon Rapids, MN, a suburb to the North-West of Minneapolis. The Aluminum tube I picked up from Discount Steel and Aluminum in Minneapolis.

Kevin:

I don't know where your located but you might try Trident metals, they have
several locations one here in Dallas I have been buying from. There cheaper
than any place I have found.

The only so far they have not had in stock was the .016" which they ordered
for me. It wound up being about 85 a sheet plus a little extra for shipping
to there location.

They just delivered 3 - 25' pieces of 6061 T6 3/4" x 3/4" angle delivered
was $50 for all 3 pieces.

Yarde Metals out of stock until March!
I ordered a small amount from Wicks, I am a little concerned about shipping, but we'll see.

When I bought .016 sheet 6061T6 from Erickson Metals I paid about $54 a sheet about five years ago. $233 sounds extremely high. They must have misquoted somehow. You may want to try Discount Steel in Minneapolis. They may not have the thinner sheets is stock but could probably order it for you.

I have found that metal from non aircraft suppliers is not well taken care
of and may be scratched or stained from water. I settled in to buying only
from Wicks or ACS. It comes 4 sheets to a box and UPS. The price is the
going rate.

I had them recheck the quote and they stuck by it! Wicks ect is a pretty good price, but the shipping adds a good percentage to the cost.

There is another metal supply business in Rogers, Minnesota called TW Metals. I haven't used them but you might want to give them a try. There is also a metal supply in St. Michael on Hwy 241 I think. I drove by there yesterday but now I can't recall the name.
