[quote] Has anyone considered adding a dump valve to thier fuel system. Just seems like being able to
get rid of most or all of your fuel if you are being forced to land in "tiger country" would be
a good idea.

Any thoughts???

Statistically the number one reason for crashes and forced landings is running out of fuel. Adding fuel dump valves is adding one more possible failure mode leading to running without fuel. Most of these cases are pilot error. Best leave the pilot home Smile Flying safety is a compromise. If you keep adding everything one could possibly think of, you will end up with a plane that will so heavy that it will never leave the ground. Which makes it a pretty safe thing which is not an airplane any more.
More specific to the Europa and it's backrest fuel tank, i can't remember fire balls on crashing. Only with added fuel tanks.

Oh i realize fire is not a primary issue in a forced landing, and I am not sure what the availability of airstrips is like in Europe, but with some areas of Australia once you leave the coastal strip you could be looking at
an hour or more of flying before you have any options for landing because
of the mountains and total lack of population. Given that, landing in trees
is mostly your only option, and just seems like less weight would be a good thing in that situation IMHO

Craig

From memory I think I had to remove the starter motor and the water pump header and hoses from the rear of the engine.
The standard alternator stayed in place.

Hi Craig,

Funny that you bring up this lack of emergency landing places up. It is really the same here. A forest fire check flight last 3 hours, around the airport basically, and less then 20 minutes in reach of some road or flat spot. So far the only damage we had was from a freak storm while parked at the airport. Only from the reactions of other pilots, not used to these circumstances, i realized that there is a difference. I guess that it all translates to be precise, be careful, do not accept any "maybe it is good enough". We keep flying because it's fun and after all the roads are more dangerous, with reindeer and mouse and tourist distracted by them Smile

Yes we have the same problem here with the wildlife, mostly they like to
throw themselves infront of your car and destroy it for you
