I have a copy of a small pamphlet titled "Sales Data Handbook" (would fit in a shirt pocket) that lists all the Aero Commander models from the 100, Darter-100, 200 (looks like a Meyers) AG-B-1A Snipe (radial) up through the 1121 Jet Commander. I got it from a fellow Commander owner Charley Williamson -who owned a 520 at the time, based out of Pontiac, Michigan. Charley helped me ferry my bird from Tecumseh, MI in '89 to Pontiac where I got it airworthy again. For whatever reason Charley had a bunch of these loose in a box (I should have snagged more). I haven't seen Charley in years but I believe Charley has passed on; I saw his 520 in Howell, MI a few years back on the tie down ramp.

This little gem lists: price, years built, serial # range, quantity built, power plant, prop, fuel specs...dimensions - performance. The index includes 27 models of Commanders all together.

I can copy it and send it on to (?) help with the Commander specification issue. Note that I should have paid closer attention to how I hole punched the bloody thing - I inadvertently punched it on the wrong side of the page such that I cut out some of the spec's. Nonetheless it's pretty comprehensive for its size and even with some information cropped off, it's not so difficult to interpolate between models to fill in the blanks.

Fellas (and gals)

I have a similar pamphlet and would be happy to scan it if Gary’s info has been somehow lost due to hole punches.

After writing the above, I went to my office (in my basement) and looked up the publication I have.

Its title is “ROCKWELL COMMANDER AIRCRAFT HANDBOOK.” It lists basic specs and base prices for Rockwell aircraft current in 1974, and specs for “Prior Models.”

Here is a scan of the Table of Contents and two sample pages:

That would be a treasure, Gary. If you could somehow copy it, or send it so that I can scan it (I'll send it back) and publish it on the website, it would be the answer. I didn't even start researching the ag-Commanders. They should definately be in the website, don't you think?

Thanks

Nico

Nicco,

Looks to me as if Deneal's got the same one I have, except I don't have the cover. If Deneal has the scanning and electronic expertise to get it to you - I'd go with his 'cleaner' electronic copy! It even has more aircraft listed in the index than the one I have.

Here I thought I had something unique?

Hi Nico, et al,

The brochures & booklets mentioned by Gary & Deneal are "OK", but I'm pretty sure they contain errors.

Sadly, it seems that Aero Commander/Rockwell supplied erroneous data to the media and it was accepted and published in, for example, Jane's "All The World's Aircraft".
Some of the dimensions were particularly susceptible to being wrong.

I have been 'working' with a few other guys, one of whom was an Engineer with Aero Commander from the very early 60's and we have ironed-out all the squawks.

So, I am sending the correct data to Nico to go into the website.
Once it is "on display" and you think something is wrong, by all means shout.
I will then have the opportunity to double-check the data and explain what the true situation is.

Also, once the Specs are available for perusal, let us know whether other data should be included and we will "sort it".

One area that is difficult is the "Empty Weight".
Because of the original customer specs for any one given aircraft, the Empty Weight will, of course, vary.
I'm absolutely certain that most Empty weight figures in the various Handbooks etc will reflect an aircraft delivered with only extremely basic instruments, radios & equipment. In numerous cases, these basic items were added to by the Distributor before the aircraft was finally handed over to the original customer.

Very Best Regards,
Barry
