Yesterday, January 5, 2008, N5SL made it's first flight around the pattern. 4-years, 11-months and 5-days since I started work on the airplane.

Does anybody know of a Plans-built 601XL that has flown in the U.S.? I'd like to claim to be the first so if anybody knows of another please let me know.

Congratulation Scott!

Not sure if your 601XL is the first scratch built to fly, at least is the only one I know. But for sure, yours is the first scratch built, Corvair powered and BRS fitted that takes to the skies. You can surely claim that one. I've been following your project from your web site since you where buiding your wings.

Thanks guys. It was an incredible moment. My 13-year-old daughter filmed the video from a chase car, then she edited the video with music and some pictures. Enjoy:
