Hi everyone,
I'd like to know your opinion. In about 2 weeks I'm going to start my Zodiac standard kit construction and the plan is to use Camstream.com to build it live with video/audio stream. I already have a tail kit and the rest should be arriving in February or so.
The question is - is it a good idea? What I hope for is that someone who may be watching the cam may see a mistake I'm going to make and can stop me from doing it.

This sounds like an interesting idea, but there is one question that
comes to mind.
Who will spend the time to watch hours and hours of somebody else
building an airplane?

There has already been a build on the web by Tommy Walker. This will not
help you in any way in your building process. IT will be good for others
to see the process of building. However, the people who have been there
and done that will not be the ones watching. This will also slow your
building down, as you will have to answer questions and engage in
conversations that take time away from building. It's a good thing to
do, but it will be like having an open door policy at the hanger, anyone
will drop in and sit in your chair for a half a day talking to you
because they have nothing else to do. There is nothing wrong in this but
it is best done on scheduled days.

Mark,
it seems that I'll rethink it again before the start. I want to build more than discuss, that is for sure.
Thanks

Pavel569,
I had a web cam hooked up in my garage while I was building my plane. I had quite a few lookers but very few interruptions. One interesting lurker IM’ed me and asked me to stand in front of the camera so she/he could see me. Asked me to take off my hat and smile at the camera. Turns out it was an old girl friend. She invited me to come down to Orlando for a week at her expense.
Anyway, I digress….
I think my non-flying friends looked more than anyone.
One person suggested I could start a pay-per-view site and call it the “Naked Builder.” For those who’ve seen me you know how long that site would have remained alive. I would have certainly had to buy more bandaids…. LOL

Hi Pavel569
I screwed webcam to a shelf in the corner of my garage. I could not find a usb cable long enough to plug it into my computer so I set it up to take a picture every six seconds and store to a memory card.
I upload the pictures to u-tube where you can watch an entire days work in about three minutes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wDOZXJ_Ql4 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcd1rE9GkZk so far.
If could find a way to plug the camera into the computer (about 20m away) I might think about setting up as a webcam, could be very useful when I stuck.. or mess up.. again..

Rob,
Nice video. I was thinking about doing a similar setup to record my build
progress. What is the camera and software setup that you use?

Hi Curt,
The camera is a Technika SH-340T and the freeware is JPGVideo from Ted Ferenc at www.ndrw.co.uk. To get the 6 secs time lapse I used a 555 microchip in a stripboard circuit similar to an auto windscreen wiper delay. I also wired the camera for mains power because the two AAA batteries last about 10 minutes.
It was a rough and ready way of getting what I wanted. For web streaming, video conference, windows netmeeting and generally better quality video/pictures I suggest going wireless as Craig pointed out.

You're gonna have a metric-buttload of pictures of you scratching your head by the time you are done.
