Interesting
From another list
Looking forward to hearing about the success of the kit and all the
changes required.

adding dependence on electricity.

much left for the ordinary appliances and battery on board.
The maximum regulator momentary output is in the vicinity of 18 amps.

True Rotax has minimal electrical power. To bad.
The fix would be a proper alternator, then use
the Rotax one for backup with just essential
items on line. There are more than one add-on
alternator kits available for the 912. I probably will need one anyway.
The EFI does add more complexity with a required
high pressure pump or two and return line and who knows what else.
It would be nice to modernize the engine.
BTW, I read about a lot of regulator failures,
but have not read about the stator generator failures.

Adding complexity is justified only for correcting some defect.
Not sure whether the 912 really is in need of fuel injection.

The stator itself is very robust.
It took a lot of abuse when we bench tested it :

This site is in German, which I don't read too well, unfortunately.
What is it, it looks really interesting!

it is about a ready to go EFI system utilize the original manifold
you can choice with either one or two (as a back up) ecu boxes
what is important the system can run without battery it is self redundant.
better fuel economy in middle range, better egt with only approx 20°C differ between cylinders.
nice system but to expensive for the 100 to 200 hrs flyer per year i think
but nice and technical

Hi Alex,
Would you happen to know if its still fixed timing or do the ECU's alter the timing to match different RPM's, vacuum and EGT parameters ?
Thanks, Paul

reading in on the website it says it got fuel and ign. maps
i hope this answers your question.
speaking from my experience in my normal day-job for sure the ign and fuel systems used on most airplane engine is a bit stone age but as the flying folks is a bit Conservative if it don't break don't fix it.
but carbs are ok ish as we do most of the running the engine with a constant rpm so the advantages are less but for sure the altitude compensation would bit a lot better with proper maping and therefore mixture compensation.

I have seen may people attempt to do fuel injection, but at www.experimentalfuelinjection.com , we do it right. First off, fuel injection requires 8-9amps no matter who is making the set up. With this in mind, the only way to properly run fuel injection is with a 55 amp external alt. Our set ups are simply the best. We offer 4 different configurations of 912's and 5 different configurations of 914's. From Intercooled direct port fuel injection, to truly redundant set ups on fuel and ignition, we have it all.

JASON: I am curious as to why you need a 55 Amp alternator for the EFI for the 912 ULS? Another engine manufacturer only uses a 30 Amp.

Joe,
I use the same alternator used on the rotax alt kit. It is a 6 pound denso alternator one wire set up. You need 9-10 amps for fuel injection. If you rely on the stock stater /gen assembly, it is only good for 14 continuous. With fuel injection pulling 10 amps, that leaves you 4 for gages, strobes, radio, ect. To answer your question, a 30 amp alt will do just fine.

Hi Jason,
Could you tell me how many of your engines are in flying aircraft and approximately how many hours (agregated) have been accumulaed ?
Thanks, Paul

Paul,
all the engines I use are from the predator uav program. The military has a whole protocall for pulling engines: overspeed, overtemp, overboost, high or low oil pressure, lack of performance, or 600Hours. Most engines I receive are because of lack of performance. The military runs 100ll which fouls up the rings, builds large deposits on the cylinder heads/pistons/ valves. The average time on a engine I receive is around 400 hours.
regards
Jason

Hi Jason,
I think the question Paul was asking referred to time on engines
AFTER your conversion. Do you have any customers with flying
aircraft and your injection / turbo system that could share their opinions
or go to SnF or Oshkosh where we could see the hardware, etc.
Thanks,
