Hi Guys
I'm looking for a set of HDS wings. Been flying my HD for about 3 years now and I'm looking to decrease the amount of turbulence I currently experience. Most of my flying is in the mountains and it is usually windy and bumpy and often times uncomfortable flying. Other than that I like the HD wings and the lift they generate. My only concerns with the HDS wings is that summertime density altitude often gets between 4500-5000 feet and with a 912ul I'm hoping that 2000 foot runways and decent climb will still be manageable at gross weight. Perhaps vgs will help with that. Anyway if anyone has a set they are willing to part with please contact me.
Thanks
John

Hi John,
I remember John Sherley in Dyer Indiana had a set of HDS wings that he
wanted to trade for HD wings.
This is probably to comply with light sport stall requirements. He just
flew his this past year and might still be interested.
Try giving him a call at 1-219-322-6935.

John,
I have an HDS with 912ul. With the density/altitudes that you describe my experience is that it would be a real struggle at gross weight. I flew to Mexico Miss. a few years ago and left there when temp was over 90 degrees and high humidity and I struggled to get to 4500 ft. with two 200 lb ers on board.

I have a 601 HDS and live in the mountains . I can tell you that the HDS gets bounced around a lot and find it hard to believe that you would gain anything by changing wings.

Jack,
The HDS wing cuts convective better than the HD wing, but the climb rate
for the HD wing is something a HDS wing can't compete with.
If I lived at altitude or in the mountains, I'd be building a set of HD
wings for certain. It's an interesting question, choosing wings for
speed or climbing capability.

When first firming the decision on "What airplane?" to the 601, I thought
the best choice to be the HD as it "had" to be for lower time pilots like me
who needed a pussycat. This was '98 with the XL just an announcement.

A demo flight in old 63Romeo, a TD/HDS powered with an 80 HP 912 with Roger
in the left seat, told me that the little tapered wings looked mighty cool
and were not going to turn around and bite.

Up until that ride the thought of clipping a foot to a foot and a half off
of the HD wings had crossed my mind. Larry has written about the same
thing. If you have an HD and want a bit less drag and slightly higher wing
loading, ever consider that road?

Just for thought...jeff
