Hey John,
Have you guys been able to come up with the new lightweight wood wing
strut fairings yet or are you still using the old plastic ones.
Need to put some on my plane sometime but hesitant to use my plastic ones
if the new ones are lighter.

there are many options here.... one thing for sure, adding fairings
makes a huge difference. I simply faired balsa behind the tube only,
then fiberglassed, then filled and painted. Took some time but felt
well worth the effort.... any questions on my method will be glad to
help ...
Dave

Hi Dave I am interested in how you did your strut fairings, I've purchased balsa to do my struts but haven't started so any help / pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks GB

Looking for the plastic covers to buy does anyone have some they want to sell and how heavy are they? I was thinking of bending some out of coil stock. Are they better round on the front or sharp like the extruded ones?

Lee,
I forgot to tell you about the under-seat storage. Murle
Williams sells a nice box and door that fits in the seat pan. It's
useful for small maintenance items; things you don't use in flight.
http://www.sonoragraphics.com/williamsaviation/underseat.html. You'll
want to dig through the rest of Murle's site for more interesting
Kitfox stuff. http://murlewilliamsaviation.com/ (He also sells a glove box.)
Check the archives on the wing strut fairings. John
(www.kitfoxaircraftllc.com) has gone away from the PVC because it's
so heavy. I think he's now shaping them, but claims to sell them, as
well as other strut fairings. Also check out Aircraft Spruce's 4130
streamlined tubing. You can make new N struts and horizontal
stabilizer struts from these. (Or you can just cover the existing, if
you want to suffer the weight.) I've seen similar streamlined tubing
in aluminum, but I couldn't find it at ACS.

Did some new work on wingstruts.
with data from a book, I guess it is more accurate then the "Windtunnel"
that seems to be very wrong at low Re numbers.
See the round tube drag, in book it say Cd is 1.0 - 1.17, not so in the
windtunnel.
anyway, it looks like with a good airfoil instead of tube, drag can be one
tenth or less. NACA 670xx or NACA 00xx-65 is good ones.
How many meter tube is it? or feet?
Result; from book, better with 30% or less, from windtunnel 40%, anyone have
a better windtunnel program?
